Derek works full-time as an instructor with TIA and enjoys helping students get through difficult exams. Prior to TIA, Derek worked as a consulting actuary in Atlanta, GA. With over ten years of experience as a consultant with Aon Hewitt, Derek's career has spanned pension, healthcare and global employee benefit consulting. His most recent role was in the Global Benefits group, advising large multinational clients on employee benefit plans including healthcare, life, accident, disability, pension and other plans in locations spanning the globe.
Derek graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Risk management/Insurance, a minor in Spanish and a specialization in Mathematics. In his quest to help actuaries through the difficult exam process, he has served as a mentor and exam coach for a number of students in both upper and lower level exams. He also wrote sample exams for the Group Health courses prior to becoming an instructor.
An obsession with foreign travel led Derek to take a few years away from the working world in the middle of his career, during which time he was able to visit every continent and a vast number of countries along the way. When not traveling, he enjoys playing soccer, running and getting outdoors whenever possible.
Zak works as a consulting actuary in Chicago, IL, where his work primarily involves hedging variable annuity risk for insurance companies. He graduated from Brown University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics, and he became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2014.
Zak has a strong background as a QFI track exam instructor. He passed his actuarial exams very quickly and works with investment-oriented insurance products as a consulting actuary. Before becoming an actuarial exam instructor, Zak was a teaching assistant for many different college classes, including Computational Probability and Statistics, Investments, Corporate Finance, and Discrete Structures in Mathematics. He has also written practice exams for TIA.
Beyond Zak's passion for helping actuaries pass difficult fellowship track exams, he enjoys swimming and piano. He just finished his first triathlon this summer at the Chicago Triathlon.
Eddie is the Director of SOA Exams at The Infinite Actuary and has been an instructor on the ILA track since 2007. Eddie has an extensive background in life and annuity products and a decade of experience instructing material on the SOA's ILA fellowship track.
Before joining The Infinite Actuary full-time in 2012, Eddie worked in a variety of actuarial areas including asset-liability modeling, valuation, and experience studies involving both life and annuity products. Eddie chaired the SOA Technology Section in 2012. Eddie graduated from the University of Georgia in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in economics and holds a master's degree in economics from NC State University. After grad school, Eddie rapidly passed his exams and became a fellow in 2007.
Beyond Eddie's passion for helping actuaries pass difficult fellowship track exams, he enjoys being a dad, reading, writing, travel, and watching college football. He lives with his wife and their two children in Greenville, SC.
